January 29, 2014 - Everyone watch the State of the Union address? Maybe I should rephrase that as anyone? Overall I don't think there were a ton of surprises. Obama proved once again that he's a great orator, though it doesn't say much about the actual content of his speech which mostly focused on the less controversial issues his base supports with some sincere sounding appeals for bipartisanship. The Republican response by Cathy McMorris Rodgers was less sincere on all fronts, and painted a picture of a woman who didn't seem to understand her own privilege and claimed to have "plans" yet never outlined any of them, which goes along with the Republicans' general modus operandi of offering rhetoric instead of action.
