June 28, 2013 - I have no idea what Patience is doing in Panel 3.

Emily just got some freelance work as a columnist for Read It Forward. Click the link to check out her first column.

Next week begins a series of stories detailing how various characters lost their virginities. I don't want to spoil these stories but one of them includes a rape narrative, so a trigger warning will be running above the comic all next week until that comic occurs (and will remain present on that comic in the archives (something I should probably do with other comics that have referenced rape if anyone wants to take the time to point those comics out to me)). Furthermore the next storyline as well as many of the comics remaining in this storyline with that character will be talking about the issue of rape. If this is something you're extremely sensitive about I urge you to take caution reading these comics and trigger warning labels will precede all comics in these storylines on both the main page and in the archive. If there's more I can do to prevent anyone from experiencing a trigger please let me know via e-mail, but I feel this is a very important issue to discuss which I hope to approach in a sensitive manner. I think there are many dangerous misconceptions about rape and they should not be ignored. The cases are so numerous it's hard to keep up with all of them and many end without justice. I mentioned before on this blog Tucker Reed's case at my alma mater. Currently her alleged rapist is suing her for defamation for publishing his name online and she's begun a fundraising project to help with legal fees. I'm pretty invested in this case not just because of a choice of schools but because I think she has a near overwhelming amount of evidence supporting her and it's time a high profile case brought to light the ongoing psychological abuse rapists can bring to their victims as well as the situations where rape occurs. Her rapist was not some stranger he was her boyfriend of a couple weeks who then manipulated her into dating him for years after. I can't vouch for the veracity of the fundraising project or even her claims of her victimization but the evidence she's presented on her blog (her blog has not updated in a month, making me suspect she's been legally barred from posting on it), most specifically her allegation of proven mental duress in terms of both psychological evaluation and declining grades as well moreso than the confessions she's procured (though they're certainly relevant too), compel me to want to support her so I encourage you to do so too. Here's the link.
