December 17, 2012 - I'm probably going to get a lot of e-mail saying I'm unfairly depicting the pro-life movement with this comic which is unfortunate. I already linked to this blog that spells out a lot of the problems with the pro-life movement. If you're personally pro-life I have no issue with you, but doing anything outside an abortion clinic to profess that belief is in my eyes both inconsiderate and irresponsible. I do not doubt that some of these people are well intentioned decent human beings who may be somewhat misguided, but if you care about preventing abortion, work towards preventing unplanned pregnancy or increasing funding towards programs designed to help raise children. Women arriving at abortion clinics have taken a very important step towards taking control over their situations and the mere presence of people trying to make a different choice for these women by taking it out of their hands only belittles their situation at a very difficult time as they're already between a rock and a hard place.

I don't have much more to say. I flat out disagree with any pro-life demonstration staged outside an abortion clinic. Thankfully some of them can just be ignored (which is still easier said than done), but most of these protestors' energy could be better spent elsewhere actually making a difference in the lives of women and their children.

There's an amazing heartbreaking story I read over the weekend of a woman describing her experiences surviving sexual assault and her powerlessness seeking justice. I warn you, it is very difficult to read, but you can read it here. We need to live in a world working towards preventing what happened to NDC, that prevents what happened to NDC from happening to our children. The question over the legalization of abortion is not this problem, it is merely a related consequence of permitting such injustice to continue to persist.

Okay, comic's late enough as is, i'll probably rant some more tomorrow.
