February 12, 2014 - After feeling awful Monday, I'm feeling much better. This comic was pretty much done anyway, and now I can probably get Thursday and Friday's finished as well before next week when I'll hopefully be building a buffer as it's a three day weekend.

Not much of a blog, but I wanted to draw attention to this article in this month's New Yorker discussing pending litigation against Steven Brigham, a controversial abortion provider, and the many ways in which those seeking abortions suffer when there's so much stigmatization surrounding abortion. Of particular note, I found it interesting that while the abortion rate is declining, it's significantly increasing among minorities and those in poverty. Meanwhile I've always asserted that abortions should be provided in hospitals (and covered by medical insurance) as it improves their quality, something a doctor who previously had believed dedicated clinics were better due to specialized care is coming around to as the current system suffers from major problems. As I've also been somewhat aware of, in the current climate, the only people attracted to providing abortions are "...two types of doctors providing abortions -- the doctors who are totally committed to women's health and are going to do them even if they never get another dime, and the people who just want to take advantage of the situation and milk everything they can get out of it." I also add the latter group may be less competant doctors who can't make a living in other fields.

Also similar to the Munoz case in Texas, a braindead woman gave birth to a child in Canada. And while I'm pleased for the Benson family making the choice to have the child despite their circumstances, I'm somewhat worried of how the Benson family's actions may be interpretted by anti-abortionists. This was a choice made by the Benson family, it should not apply in all cases.
