January 9, 2014 - I'm not sure I need a trigger warning, but I'm trying to get better about them when posting things in the blog (i.e. stop reading now).

As was reported days ago, the victim at the center of the Maryville rape case has recently attempted suicide drawing attention to the harassment many victims still feel even after coming forward, which makes many victims believe their experiences would be worse if they did so and creating very little justification for someone to attempt to persuade a victim to come forward if she (or he) expresses no desire to do so. Fortunately as this Slate article indicates, reporting sexual assault, especially in the military, is slowly improving due to the implementation of new tactics, but concerns over negative consequences for speaking out about rape still remain and the evidence persists this perception is unfortunately not unjustified.

Shifting topics, I also found this article interesting discussing a change in beliefs that a decline in marriage rates and single motherhood is a result of increased poverty rather than the cause of increased poverty, so I thought I'd share it with everyone before I forget.
