December 30, 2013 - I almost feel I need to apologize for today's comic, cuz there are a lot of great ideas here with how children are taught harmful stereotypes from an early age and the role entertainment marketing plays into that as well as concerns of how one should handle teaching such information to children. Instead I make a joke about Adrienne being lonely, but I guess it sets up character. Interestingly Adrienne is a character I created forever ago for another project and I'm psyched to have her featured in this storyline with her daughter, June, whom I'd planned to also introduce but alas never had a chance to do so.
Incidentally Canada recently made
changes to its laws regarding prostitution which make me a bit concerned. It'll be a year until the changes go into effect as the implementation gets discussed, but I've addressed my concerns over the deregulation of prostitution before in that it tends not to get the care needed to the people involved, rather creates a surge in the market, so the people getting harmed remains constant. Besides last I checked Canada had many
issues with laws concerning exotic dancers with several businesses relying on immigrants to fill labor shortages and the government denying such visas, and while I don't want to conflate exotic dancers and prostitutes necessarily, I would imagine deregulation of prostitution will create a similar flood of immigrant workers potentially getting taken advantage of and lacking proper legal protection due to uncertainty over the status of their immigration and the local laws.
