October 17, 2013 - There's been some pretty recent strong criticism of several news organizations coverage of various event ranging from the coverage of the Steubenville rape verdict to the DC naval yard shooting to more recently the government shutdown. Unfortunately this criticism impacts almost every news organization and questions about the responsibility and trustworthiness of news organizations seem to become more and more frequent. Obviously we still need to rely on these organizations for some news, but it's important to remember that in an information age where editorial decisions are made based on ad sales and presenting information rapidly rather than accurately, we may have an increasing access and possibly responsibility to investigate the accuracy of any news organizations claims. We also should make sure to communicate information when we have access to information that is being misaccurately reported, such as what appears to be the case in Maryville which I mentioned yesterday.

Speaking of communicating information Emily has a new article discussing her own struggles with anorexia.
