October 7, 2013 - Hennifer's back! Honestly, I wish this was her third appearance rather than her second, but I've been meaning to do more with her for a while and in an effort to give myself and you a bit of a break before launching into the next storyline (despite what you my want), here she is.

Today's comic is based mostly on an examination of inverting what some of the common harassments anti-abortion protestors actually reveal about the protestors. It's my belief that most verbal harassment reveals much more about the insecurities of the people making any statements than offers any insight regarding those insults may be targetted towards (i.e. calling someone "an outsider" only indicates that the person making such a statement values their place within a group, though likely imagines their position within such a group to be tenuous). A heavy component of many arguments against women seeking abortion seems to be based that such women should feel shame for their actions, but it only reveals that anyone making such a statement must feel shame within themselves. Nora feels her opinion is not valued and seeks to devalue others' opinions, Nick feels powerless to take action to stop abortion so he seeks to depower those seeking them, and it's been somewhat established at this point that Maggie's frustrated with her sex life and seeks to take down others with her.

One's individual opinion on an unintended pregnancy shouldn't be beholden to someone else's especially when that other person's opinion is largely guided by selfish insecurities. Their are still potential concerns in terms of safety and ability to provide care for a woman seeking an abortion and her fetus, but most of the arguments seem to ignore this complexity descending into self-serving harassment that doesn't really improve anyone's situation. In future comics I intend to expand Pete and Maggie as characters to explore this idea a bit further. I kinda regret not showing their reactions to the shooting last week as it will be important moving forward, though I should point out that Pete was rather specifically absent from today's comic, and generally won't be featured in Hennifer comics moving forward.

Anyway, as Hennifer points out, much of the rhetoric attempting to discourage women seeking abortion is simply horse shit. So... don't be fooled by the squak that they got (she's still, she's still Henny from the flock).
