August 6, 2013 - Here's Emily's latest Read It Forward blog, plus lawmakers in Wisconsin ruled to keep two abortion clinics open despite new laws that would force them to close. It's kinda disheartening that the law is being challenged only on its admitting privileges rather than its unnecessary ultrasounds, but overall I find this a problem with trying to limit access. I really believe every hospital with a maternity ward should be required to either perform abortions or offer admitting privileges to a facility that does provide them. If they don't they're not offering the best care and that's what this debate really should boil down to (plus it squashes most arguments against facilities providing abortions on the grounds that they profit off such care cuz hospitals make a lot more off deliveries than abortions).
