April 1, 2013 - My general belief is that if you're citing specific passages of the Bible, you're probably missing the point. There are a lot of passages that support ideas society no longer finds acceptable such as the ones Mary mentions and if you want to do so I'm sure you can search the internet to find such passages pretty easily. The broad idea boils down to creating a fair society where you treat others the way you'd like to be treated, whether that means eye for an eye justice or turning the other cheek is a matter of debate as both ideas are suggested within the Bible's pages, but I think the basic gist is that the Bible is trying to set an example of how to accept others rather than place judgment upon them when they haven't wronged you (as well as recount a fairly flawed historical narrative).
