March 8, 2013 - Shortly after I posted yesterday's comic, CNN published this story. Now, less than 24 hours later it's no longer on their main page (despite other older stories being readily available). Somehow despite stories celebrating international women's day on their main page this wasn't considered significant enough to make easy to find later, completely undermining many of the struggles women are currently facing as if to say they don't matter. I must imagine Arkansas's attempts to restrict abortion will be struck down, the New York Times mentions that a similar yet less restrictive law in Idaho was struck down (and this story also isn't that easy to find on the Times' website), but it shouldn't even be coming to this. Furthermore to shy away from even reporting the issue is becoming a horrifying standard among news organizations. I'm not a news organization. I try to stay as up to date as possible and post relevant articles in blogs like this one. But I know I miss stories occassionally for a variety of reasons. But this whole story (and attempts to hide it) seems extremely significant if only for the large amount of support such a measure seemed to have among the Arkansas legislature, suggesting everyone needs to remain pretty vigilant to retain rights that were granted forty years ago. Ugh.
