July 11, 2012 - Yup, despite any statements she may have made and probably will continue to make to the contrary, Star can't have children. Initially Emily and I intended on revealing this information much later, but it worked narratively better to reveal it now. Also, it may even create tension in future storylines where you as an audience know she can't have children, but the majority of the characters in this comic are not aware of this information.

Star is not one to dwell on any emotions she may have over such a situation, so I'm going to follow her lead and not discuss her circumstances in any greater detail.

I would, however, once again like to draw attention to the fact that Steve and Brianna are not representives of a polyamorous lifestyle. Honestly Steve and Brianna are kinda jerks, and I don't want anyone to think a polyamorous lifestyle means you're jerks like them. Steve and Brianna are just two out of three people that have found a situation that works for them. Yes, they weren't great to Star, but we don't see much of their relationship with Wanda so presumably Steve and Brianna may have learned from the mistakes they made with Star (or perhaps not). Every relationship is different and what works for one or two or well, three people may not work for everyone. Star wasn't happy with Steve and Brianna's situation, but Steve and Brianna are and so is Wanda based on what Steve and Brianna have said about her. The fact that Steve continues to talk about Wanda and stayed at the clinic during Brianna's procedure is also meant to show that he does care about both women in their relationship.

Relationships are ultimately about strong communication and trust. Some people may look at a polyamorous relationships as having more potential to go wrong, but on the other side of the argument it's a larger team working together to solve problems. I have some regrets with how sexually charged I made Steve and Brianna's attitudes regarding all this, as I don't think the strongest polyamorous relationships are about that. But again, they're not representatives of polyamorous relationships, they're just them. And so long as everyone's happy with that, there's not much more to say.
