January 25, 2013 - It was important to me to end Stephanie's storyline without showing her cry. She's done what she wants for now, and though her past and future have the potential for a fair amount of heartache, she has nothing to feel bad about in the present.
Meanwhile, a bunch of Catholic hospitals took a rather hypocritical stance to win a malpractice suit. Apparantly a fetus is a child only when it doesn't threaten a hospital's reputation. I don't want to make light of the horrible tragedy that befell the Stodghill family, but I feel the legislation being used to deny it its malpractice suit sets a precedent wherein religious objections to forms of health care (like contraception or abortion) must be disavowed which with rare exceptions such as the circumstances of the Stodghill family should be mostly beneficial to the nation as a whole.
Also a new law was proposed in New Mexico that's as worded (the senator who proposed it has conveniently backpedalled about its intent, but it's still worded really poorly if it was the intent) one of the most insulting pieces of legislation affecting victims of rape ever proposed. But I can't find sources that aren't horribly liberally biased that have mentioned it, and there's almost no way it passes anyway. If you'd like to read it though, you can click here. It basically demands that victims of rape carry any resulting pregnancy to term as having an abortion would constitute tampering with evidence. Supposedly the senator proposing it claimed the intent of the law was to prevent rapists from coercing women to have abortions (which unfortunately does happen), but I can't actually verify that the senator actually said this or more importantly if she actually meant it. Again not going to pass anyway, so I probably shouldn't be mentioning it. But I did, so meh.
See you Monday!
